CORROUR STATION
CORROUR STATION
A few week ago Dawn booked me in to stay at an old converted signal box at Corrour on the West Highland Line. The W.H.L. was built by the North British Railway, a line from Glasgow to Mallaig. Corrour Station is the highest station on the rail network. Originally built for the workers on Corrour Estate with a short platform no bigger than a carriage length.
Due to resignalling the line the signal box fell into disuse. Corrour Estate bought the signal box and rebuilt the Station Building into a cafe - restaurant.. The signal box was converted into three rooms with a communal room where the signal levers were. Now people can stay and sleep in the signal box.
Dawn booked me in for two nights, bliss.

The station itself is a busy one with walkers staying at the hostel a half mile away. Also it is a starting point for walkers to walk to Mallaig.

Platform is a short one. Trains are longer.

Did I mention that the trains are too long for the platform?

Corrour Sign. In Gaelic as well off course.
Corrour Cross the line. Straight ahead over the moor. Turn right to Fort William. I saw many walkers go right.

Scenery at Corrour.
Looking West
Looking South
Looking North and East are posted earlier.
Corrour Station is a simple track plan with an island platform plus a siding. A variety of trains throughout the years. The scenery bleak yet a magic of its own imo.

Not everything is 100% perfect
I did see some trains. Even the three carriage trains are too long for the short platform

Re: CORROUR STATION
I was there for two nights-three days. Every passenger train stopped there.
I did not see a freight train as I must have been elsewhere.
The area is so relaxing with gorgeous scenery (imo).
IMO Corrour Station would make an interesting model. If set in a timeframe of 1970s or earlier there was a number of freight trains up and down the line as well as passenger ones.
