The engine’s actual last shed was Hull Dairycoates before withdrawal, so it was too good a bargain not to rehome

Well, as with the prototype, engineering possession will run beyond the weekend . This was the result of three and a half hours work; the bottom tracks are fitted and wired up, most of the time was spend adjusting the levels between the boards, down to the half mm, just to avoid a ‘derailing jump’. Quite happy



Now for the top section.

As a side issue, for once, and something I should have done from the outset when I started this, I’m thinking of spraying the track prior to ballasting. As I don’t have an air brush it has to be a rattle can, but I don’t fancy paying just short of £15 for say a tin of ‘sleeper grime’. Can anyone suggest cheaper acceptable alternatives?

Phoenix Paints Sleeper Grime £4:75 for a small tin. Thin it to make it go further and slosh it on with a brush. Doesn’t have to be neat. Also Rusty Rails for the sides of the rails you can see. Applied with a little brush. Easy.

By the way where did you find the paint for £15?

Carl, I've always used Humbrol no29 'dark earth' for my track. Available in aerosol.

Thanks as always guys. WTD - sleeper grime aerosol - a quick Google and saw it on eBay at £14+, but have since seen it at £8 ish, plus postage.

So, mission completed, track possession handed back and we are a ‘roundy roundy’ again . Now for a tidy up, a clean and run some trains.
