Has there been a problem with the forum?
Re: Has there been a problem with the forum?
Today 25th July is painfully, painfully slow.
Corresponding with U.S.A. and New Zealand is much faster.

Since the backup fix accessing the forum has been instant for me what ever the time. Must be some other gremlins in the works.

I tried several times around 11am and got nowhere, I’m in now but will not return till someone sorts the problem. Rmweb suits me now.

Could you elaborate what you mean about "Corresponding with U.S.A and New Zealand is much faster?"
The site is hosted within the UK, with Amazon, who have a massive infrastructure, I doubt it's anything to with that.
I've dug into the logs, as there are some other usage spikes that I'm not currently able to explain. (i.e it's not the backup). These spikes do show an increase in data traffic along with the processor use, which might indicate the issue is external. This could be a unknown 3rd party 'poking' the forum to see if they can find anything of interest, or it could be a user with an issue on their machine that is confusing the software running the forum.
I'd suggest anyone who has had connection issues with the forum to have a quick check over their own machine, just in case. A simple Malware scan would be the best place to start. it's very unlikey it's a user issue, but it never hurts to check.
I've still got tons of logs to dig through, so I may come up with something else on my own, I'll working on the issue when I can.

Same problem seems to occur on the new railway modellers site, which uses the same forum software (and is now littered with adverts). It seems that when this site is unreachable, so is nrm.
Re: Has there been a problem with the forum?
I have no challenges with NRM (or other Forums I am on).

Rog. Download a free copy of Ad Blocker or similar and ..... Woosh.... All ads disappear on every forum and other sites visited.
Or alternatively download Duck Duck Go which doesnt allow adverts,

Hmm... straight in on connecting at 17:00 today. No problem!
Perhaps there was a connection issue earlier?
