Encouragement in the Hobby

Words of encouragement go a long way.

Because I could not use my right hand properly I was told at school I was lazy for not using it. The more I tried it didn’t help, but still carried on.

I took up scenery modelling to use both hands. Gosh have I made so many mistakes. Family encouraged me (thankfully). Though I had a train set it was never in any scenery I built.

It was Dawn, my wife who encouraged me to have a layout in the scenery. Bless her. Off course the errors are still being made, but Dawn never says a bad word.

When the doctors at the hospital said “Years ago I had a stroke causing loss of use of part of my right side.” I hadn’t been lazy. The words made me ‘try harder’.

Dawn still gives me great encouragement. I still make mistakes when railway modelling (and there are many). The support from Dawn is priceless.

Always remember that we learn through making mistakes and by learning ways we can personally achieve results. Our results display the character of our models and our modelling.

So much mis-diagnosis in the past. Folk are better informed these days and can often plod on past their problems with improved support.

Unfortunately Rob, all the support and reference material are rendered useless when nature manages to design new types of idiots every day. ;)

Agreed. We are into 2 to 3 generations of bad parenting and ASBO seems to be a post nominal for many kids thrown out of school.
Then you meet many other very polite kids helping at various events, volunteering at attractions and generally setting a good standard.
i often comment on how friendly and polite the majority of customer facing folk are these days. It makes my day.
