Rant starts ...
My FB account was recently hacked and the perp(s) posted inappropriate material in my name. Apologies to anyone who had that happen to them - it wasn't me sending it. I never saw any of it, so was at a loss when folk pointed it out.
To counter this I changed my password and set up 2 stage authentication as suggested by FB. I had logged out of all places FB said I was operating from, including Nigeria and Columbia on the same day, and from all devices except the one I used to change PW, etc, so that should have been that. Not so.
Next FB tells me it has deleted much spam, then tells me my account is suspended for posting against their community standards, etc.
I have the right to appeal, so I press continue, and that's it. Your appeal will be considered. Hang on, I didn't present any facts yet, just pressed the appeal button. I have no idea if this suspension is being judged perp related or spam related or is the government involved and should I pack a bag ready to go to jail.
I await a decision, presumably made by a robot as to whether I will be allowed back or not. If not my account will be deleted. All model railway and other sites of interest will have to do without me for now or maybe forever.
Annoyingly I cannot use Messenger either, which is a FB offshoot, to contact friends to tell them the tale.
End of rant.

What a nightmare Rob. I am considering leaving FB. It is just full of crap but it draws you in.
Nurse, the screens!
Re: Booted out of Facebook
Along with FB changing of password the unfortunate thing is that you should now change all passwords, including on Bank and Utility company apps.
Appealing to FB is probably a waste of time, as you have said it is likely a computer algorithm deciding that a computer algorithm is correct.
Maybe as you can be beamed from Nigeria to Columbia you can also time travel back to change you passwords on FB in 2024!

Reinstated at lunchtime, then binned again mid afternoon for illegal advertising. Seems like they didn't flush the perp out then. No way of entering discussions with them, just the 1 button appeal method.
I have nothing to advertise only frustration with robot controlled social media.

Alrhough I don't know much about social networking sites ( purely from my own choice not to know anything about them ) I would definitely say that a complaint needs to be made about their handling of the situation.
From my perspective, I would have thought they would have at least tried to contact you by email to at least get the facts from you before just locking you out for the hell of it.
Most certainly an overhaul of their procedures seems necessary aswell as an update of the networks security programs or whatever they call them, I'm not an expert hence my lack of usable terminology.

There is no method of complaint possible. They bump you out with only an appeal button. The response to pressing that is we will let you know. Next they say you are back in. All their emails come from a no-reply address. They are as unaccountable as the government.508035 wrote: ↑Sun May 25, 2025 12:32 pm Alrhough I don't know much about social networking sites ( purely from my own choice not to know anything about them ) I would definitely say that a complaint needs to be made about their handling of the situation.
