This is what is delaying the Victoria Line from Kent this morning.

Where we used to live in Cornwall there was a railway bridge like that one over the A30 at Victoria near our Village of St Columb Major. Trucks used to get stuck under that bridge often in spite of flashing lights. danger low bridge warning signs and other low bridge wanning signs ahead of the bridge. And the bridge was painted bright colour chevrons........... And they still drove into it. ............. So there are plenty of other planks around. ............John

I was HGV and the penalties are quite heavey. I am not up to speed what they are today but when I used my licence years back penalties were quite high.
I would like to point out just for the record I was never never prosecuted for anything. Wish I had a pound for every time I drove my Fire Engine through a speed camera well over the limit. Funny,,,,,,,,, never got a ticket.

And it’s a local haulage company and a local driver. Should have known better - the bridge has been there a very long time.
I believe this is one of the ten ‘most hit’ bridges in the UK.

Driver may have been agency driver from miles away. When I was driving I have had to get a trian to Manchester or Birmingham or somewhere from Essex to pick up a truck

There is a road not far from here where anything too high gets big orange flashing warning lights triggered. The problem is that by the time they realise what the lights mean crunch! Is an easy mistake as I came very close to crushing the roof of a little Bedford Bambi camper van I once owned. It was about a foot too high for the local car parks. The number of cars with roofboxes or bicycles which also get damaged at these car parks must be quite high.

I do remember when I was driving HGVs The firm I was working for used to hire lots of diferent types of trucks as well as long and short distance loads. Often from one day to the next you did not know ifyou were going to be driving a large truck or a Transit type. In the case HGVs (as they were called in those days.) they were all diferent body heights. So you had to be very carful to remember which truck you were driving on the day. (it is part of the job) But being aware of the height of your truck is something I made sure I was aware of so I think fines should be stiff for those who forget. I don't agree it is an easy mistake to make MG. If an Air trafic controller make mistakes like that there may be hundreds of bodies over the runway. Just thing what damage a vehicle driver can do in a minutes forgetfulness if he has 52ft of moving truck in his hands..............John
