electric layouts

#1

Post by Queensbury »

Hi I am new to this forum, I am looking for guidance it setting out the the appropriate wiring to a layout I am starting to create. It is based on The Queensbury(Bradford) triangular station which had six platforms, two platform linked to each side of the three sides of the station each leading off to Halifax, Bradford and Keighley

I can provide a track layout drawing

Any help appreciated

That’s quite an undertaking. Triangular stations are quite difficult to model with tracks disappearing off in three directions and depending on what you plan to do with those three tracks can result in quite a lot of real estate required. There is a lot to think about such as are you going to have three fiddle yards? Are you going to loop the tracks back on themselves? Are you going to to have a combination of fiddle yard/s and loop/s? I think wiring is well down the line (excuse the pun) unless you have the layout plan finalised already.

You will get considerable help on this forum which has much expertise and is known as the friendly forum but I would point you to some other sources too. Firstly, are you a member of Bradford MRC? If not may I suggest you contact them their club rooms are in Black Dyke Mills in Queensbury. From a club room visit I made at Keighley MRC I recall they had an unfinished layout of Shipley station which is also a triangular station and if they still have the layout it might be beneficial to see how they approached the design. Shipley MRC also had a layout in progress of Clayton station which I also believe was triangular but the building they had their clubrooms in got condemned recently and I do not know if the club is still going or if they have new premises.

When you can provide further details of your layout and what stage you are at members here will be able to guide you through the various stages be it a DC or DCC layout.

thanks for the prompt replay much appreciated, I tried to contact the Bradford club unfortunately no response, regards to clayton station it was a straight station two platform at the end of the twin track heading towards Bradford it was approximately 500 yards through the tunnel heading in that direction, ironically my Autie lives in a cottage dated 1638 adjacent to the now filled in line.

A couple of corrections. I have just been on the various websites of the above MRCs Clayton is not a triangular station but it looks like Shipley MRC still do not have new club rooms. As for Keighley MRC no mention of the Shipley layout and as I recall it was unfinished with only a couple of members showing interest in it so I suspect it may have been scrapped. Still might be worth contacting them someone may remember the layout design.
