I suppose it needs the "small print - terms and conditions" to be read in detail. In pre-ordering you are committing to buy and the retailer giving you a receipt, should be construed as a form of contract. In most cases you have the right to cancel. Time will tell - I'm sure if it were a mistake Hornby would have realised by now and the site would have been amended or closed while corrections were made.
My understanding is that a contract only exists when the goods have been accepted by the buyer.

Pity anybody contacted Hornby. Should have just left things as they are. Now they’ve had the heads up they might withdraw it.

Maybe they will but it will just mean I get the stuff I’d originally ordered back in January at the original price - no worse off. Win- win.

Looks like the discount has disappeared - nothing showing when I logged in just now.

You’re right. I wish people hadn’t queried it with Hornby, they might not have noticed for months.

At least my order still shows the discount.

I'm glad I got my orders changed when I did. I wonder whether there will be any comeback?

I wonder if they made more sales than they normally do and bring it back properly.

Dont know if this applies to everything but if you buy the stuff from places like Hattons and other discount model shop you often can buy cheaper than direct from Hornby can't you. Now just ducking behind the wall to take cover from the bullets......................John

John you are absolutely right, but...................
When Hornby did the discount, their prices were matched by the box shifters, so nothing to be gained. However they would honour the price quoted at the time of the order rather than adjust the price up at the time of delivery.

A couple of years ago I preordered a loco for about £99 (£90 with discount) but as soon as it hit the shops the catalogue price went up to £139 - mine was delivered the next day with a receipt for £90.

I have a couple on pre order from Hattons but all they offer is an email with a revised price just prior to despatch .

It's a shame the recent Hor by discount appears to have been a mistake.
